The book explores the main issues of the emergence of the architecture of Kievan Rus, which the author considers as an organic part of the development of world architecture. The first section provides an overview of those processes and forms of Byzantine art that turned out to be relevant for Kyiv construction. The second analyzes the monuments of Chernigov, Kyiv, Polotsk, Pereyaslavl, Novgorod. Particular attention is paid to those phenomena of the social life of Kievan Rus, which determined the specifics of the tasks set for the architects, and the original compositional and artistic features of the buildings themselves. The conclusion is made about the formation in Kyiv of the XI century. own architectural school and independent artistic tradition.
