Clive Staples Lewis (born November 29, 1898, Belfast, Northern Ireland, British Empire - November 22, 1963, Oxford, England) is an English writer who has already become both a legend and a teacher in English-speaking countries. His growing popularity is largely due to the fact that the main pathos of his work was the affirmation of the immutability of the moral law. He is best known for his works in the fantasy genre, including The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, as well as books on Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracle, and Suffering. Lewis was a close friend of another famous writer - J.R.R. Tolkien.
