Guy Debord (1931-1994) - French philosopher and avant-garde artist, founder and theorist of the Situationist International (1957-1972), one of the most talented and radical critics of the modern world. His seminal works The Society of the Spectacle (1967) and Commentaries on the Society of the Spectacle (1988), presented in this book, are equally intolerant of the Western capitalist system, called the diffuse spectacle, and the Soviet, authoritarian concentrated spectacle. Debord predicted the emergence of a new type of spectacle, a synthesis of two already known ones, an integrated spectacle that combines the dictates of consumption and the repressive apparatus. According to the followers of Guy Debord, the era of the integrated spectacle is the era in which you live.
