The book by the world-famous explorer of the World Ocean Jacques-Yves Cousteau and the young biologist Yves Pakkale tells about the next Calypso expedition, which took place off the coast of Patagonia and on the islands of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. The main goal of the expedition was to study the southern right whales that come to the bays of San Jose and Golfo Nuevo for the breeding season. The authors provide many new interesting details about the character, games and marriage ceremonies of these sea giants. In addition, the authors talk about encounters with other animals of this corner of the world - guanacos, rheas, armadillos, and various seabirds. The expedition also faced another task - to find the last Indians of the endangered Kaushkar tribe in the labyrinth of islands of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. Members of the Calypso team met with them and became convinced that these people were on the verge of complete extinction. The book contains many color and black and white illustrations in the text and on separate sheets. Translation from French by M.G. Tarakanova.
