In June 1937, the unloading of all the property of the first ever North Pole station was completed, the planes flew south, and four courageous Soviet people - Papanin, Fedorov, Krenkel and Shirshov - were left alone. In February of the following year, icebreakers removed Papanin and his friend from the unstable ice floe. All this time was filled with intense work twenty hours a day. The silence of the Arctic desert turned out to be deceptive. The Arctic Ocean raged and tore the ice chains; the ice floe on which the camp was located was cracking and breaking...
