Two friends, a German philologist, professor at the University of Innsbruck Maria Depperman and a Russian theater critic, translator, poet Alexei Parin, are talking about their lives. They discuss the problems of the closed world, the problems of the closed world in the GDR and the USSR, going beyond the limits of this world and the feeling of inner independence. The topics of discussions also include issues of religion and freedom of worship. Particular attention is paid to modern musical theater and the artistic achievements of the Salzburg Festival. At the end of the book, several poems by Alexei Parin are given, one way or another related to the themes of the book.
