For the first time this book was published in May 1998, three months before the default, and became a real gift for all fans of progressive rock. It was quite a voluminous volume, which also included PINK FLOYD's discography. The re-release was released under a different cover in 2003 and without a discography. And here you have another edition. The main creator of the book, the philologist and translator Igor Poluyakhtov, does not need to be introduced. His previous works - selected translations of songs by THE ROLLING STONES, PINK FLOYD and practically the entire legacy of THE BEATLES, published in a two-volume edition ("Janus", 1996), are well known to all real rock music lovers. that in Russia there are still no worthy translators of rock poetry, not to mention the school of equirhythmic translation. Representatives of academic circles do not want to condescend to "some kind of rock singers", and this is how all sorts of "self-made" interlinear songs come out. But when the Master gets down to business, you can feel the difference. Poluyakhtov worked hard on the translations of PINK FLOYD for more than ten years and was not entirely satisfied with the result. The search for perfection could be endless, but on October 31, 2007, Igor tragically left this world. After him, a great legacy was left, because Poluyakhtov was not only a unique translator (he spoke several languages), an original poet, but also a gifted director, a brilliant journalist, producer, art critic, having proved himself in every incarnation.
Therefore, if the previous two PINK FLOYD publications. BOOK OF SONG came out in the "Progressive Rock" series, this one opens a new "Poetic Series", which will include translations of all THE BEATLES songs made by Poluyakhtov, as well as the main work of his life - the translation of the entire body of poems by T. S. Eliot, great Anglo-American poet. Eliot, of course, has nothing to do with rock music, but he touched on universal topics, like Roger Waters, John Lennon, Jim Morrison and others like them. And therefore we believe that the Poet manifests himself at different times in different qualities, not to mention the fact that rock music has long been a part of world culture. So there will be a wide variety of poets in the series, including Ezra Pound and Sylvia Plath.
