The son of the famous painter Konstantin Makovsky, Sergei Makovsky (1877-1962), distinguished himself as an art historian, organizer of many exhibitions and one of the leading art critics. S. Makovsky headed the famous magazine `Apollo`, his `Pages of art criticism`, included in this edition, were well known to art lovers. Once in exile, S. Makovsky further strengthened his authority as an art historian and critic. His books `Silhouettes of Russian Artists`, `Recent Results of Painting`, included in this volume, are published in Russia for the first time. The book is illustrated with reproductions from the works of A. Benois, K. Somov, L. Bakst, V. Borisov-Musatov, M. Dobuzhinsky, M. Vrubel, N. Roerich and other artists.
