This edition contains the main works on the culture of the Renaissance by one of the most prominent Russian historians, A. K. Dzhivelegov (1875 - 1952). With genuine writing skills, he recreates vivid images of outstanding masters of world culture, colorful pictures of the historical setting of the Renaissance. The first book includes one of his first works, The Beginning of the Italian Renaissance, which tells about Giotto, Petrarch, Boccaccio, Brunelleschi, Donatello and other prominent personalities of that time. The second book publishes the well-known Essays on the Italian Renaissance and literary portraits of Leonardo da Vinci, P. Bracciolini, A. Firenzuola, N. Machiavelli, F. Guicciardini, D. Vasari.
