Professor Vysheslavtsev is a brilliant representative of Russian philosophy. This book is perhaps the only frontal criticism of Marxist philosophy, dialectical materialism. An appeal to the reader "who is willing and able to think for himself... who understands that there are other scientific and philosophical solutions..."
Vysheslavtsev Boris Petrovich [October 3 (15), 1877, Moscow - October 10, 1954, Geneva] - Russian religious philosopher, specialist in the philosophy of law, morality. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Moscow University (1809). Student of Novgorodtsev. Member of the Moscow Religious and Philosophical Society. Master's thesis — “Fichte's Ethics. Fundamentals of law and morality in the system of transcendental philosophy” (M., 1914). From 1917 he was a professor at Moscow University. Expelled from Soviet Russia (1922). He taught at the Orthodox Theological Institute in Paris. Of the thinkers who influenced Vysheslavtsev, one can note J. Boehme and Vl. Solovyov. The Apostle Paul for him is "the first Christian philosopher, as well as the greatest dialectician." Highly appreciating dialectics, he defended the harmony of opposites, the combination of the rational and the irrational in the Absolute. Criticizing the Freudian “libido” and relying on the discoveries of C. Jung in the field of the “collective unconscious”, he outlined the steps of ascent to religious love: physical, mental, spiritual (smart), angelic, Divine eros (for “God is love”). In his final work "The Crisis of Industrial Culture" (1953), he rejects both socialism and individualism, affirms "solidarity, catholicity, brotherhood." The socio-political views of Vysheslavtsev (as well as I. Ilyin, S. Frank) formed the basis of the program of the emigrant People's Labor Union.
