The Greek scientist and public figure Plutarch lived nineteen centuries ago. His writings on political, religious, pedagogical, historical topics are widely known. He was one of the first to introduce the biographical genre into history, describing the past of his native country in the biographies of its political figures. "Comparative biographies" of Plutarch formed the basis of this collection. The retelling of the biographies of Lycurgus, Aristides, Pericles and Alexander the Great was made by M.N. Botvinnik. G.A. Stratanovsky outlined the biographies of Solon, Themistocles, Nikias, Alcibiades, Lysander, Agesilaus, Pelopidas, Demosthenes, Agis, Cleomenes. Comment
