The Greek historian Plutarch (1st century BC) is famous for his Comparative Lives of prominent Greek and Roman statesmen and public figures. The book “Famous Greeks” introduces the reader to the biographies of outstanding people of ancient Greece. And in our time, Plutarch’s biographies are of interest to many, especially young people. However, Plutarch's original text presents almost insurmountable difficulties for the modern reader. The abundance of little-known names and incomprehensible historical terms obscures the artistic merits of biographies. In the book Famous Greeks, the authors tried to retell Plutarch. Details that obscured the meaning of events, deviations from the main narrative line, and numerous names of minor characters were removed.
