Pseudo-Apollodorus - an unknown ancient Greek writer, mistakenly identified with Apollodorus of Athens. The author of the "Library" (in historical literature the name "Mythological Library" is accepted) - a work in 3 volumes, which was a large collection of traditional Greek mythology and heroic legends. "Library" today is one of the most important sources of Greek mythology. Only a part of this work has survived, but not in the original, but rewritten for the library of Cardinal Bessarion in the 15th century. The work was first published in Rome in 1555 by Benedetto Ejo. Apollodorus is mentioned in several places in the Library as its author. However, a detailed analysis of the text showed that this Apollodorus (a name common in Ancient Greece) could not be the well-known grammarian Apollodorus of Athens, in particular because the text quotes the Roman author Castor of Rhodes, a contemporary of Cicero. For this reason, the author of the text is called "Pseudo-Apollodorus", since science does not have any more data about him.
