The collection is based on the works of B.L. Pasternak: poems relating to musical art, pages of autobiographical prose, essays about favorite composers - Chopin and Scriabin, as well as musical works of the poet - a sonata and preludes published for the first time.
The work of Boris Pasternak is covered in the book with the help of materials that reveal the musical atmosphere that surrounded the poet since childhood. An essay by E. B. Pasternak (the son of the poet) is published, which tells about the role of music in the life of his father. Fragments from the memoirs of A.L. Pasternak (the poet's brother) are cited, which tell about the fate of the poet's mother, pianist R.I. Kaufman, which is not devoid of drama.
Several dozen paintings by Leonid Pasternak (the poet's father) are reproduced; among them are portraits of prominent composers and performers. Also included are excerpts from the correspondence of the poet, who, in his own words, "could not imagine life outside of music."
The extensive illustrative material of the collection includes photographs from the Pasternak family archive.
