For the first time in the “National History” series, a book is being published that is dedicated not to one country, but to three at once - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The American professor, born in Latvia, A. Plakans managed to write a very good and balanced essay on the history of these three countries. In the book, covering a chronologically vast period - from the time of the first appearance of man on the eastern coast of the Baltic to the modern stage in the development of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia - the author managed to show both the common features inherent in the history of the peoples and states of the coast, and their differences. The author adheres to the point of view that all the peoples who have ever lived and are living on the Baltic coast have contributed to the development of the region and that, carefully studying the past, it is necessary to think not about mutual claims, but about a peaceful, harmonious future for all.
