The military prose of Vyacheslav Kondratyev is saturated with the author's memories of his own front-line youth. His characters are ordinary guys, not eager to become heroes and not dreaming of fame, but humane and honest, like twenty-year-old boys are. They fall in love, quarrel, get offended, solve problems of moral choice, while the war rumbles around. "This is the story of a man who found himself in the most difficult time in the most difficult place and in the most difficult position of a soldier" - this is how Kondratiev characterizes his story "Sashka". And the main thing that soldiers want is to live without war.
