Ukrainian writer Vasily Andreevich Shevchuk dedicated his first novel “The Forerunner” to the life of the famous 18th-century philosopher, poet and educator Grigory Savvich Skovoroda.
A passionate desire for truth and justice, filial love for one’s fatherland and for the working people permeate Skovoroda’s aphoristic parables, lyrical poems (some of them became folk songs), and philosophical treatises.
The novel "The Forerunner" is structured in a unique way. It contains twelve chapters, arranged chronologically and telling how a strong-willed thinker, an ardent champion of freedom and enlightenment, Grigory Skovoroda, sweeps aside twelve networks - clerical, social and others - for the sake of serving the people and the fatherland.
