This is a kind of fragmentary of the recent past of St. Petersburg and at the same time a letter from an Estonian woman of the 21st century to her Russian great-grandmother, who lived three quarters of a century ago. The main character of the novel, on behalf of whom the story is being told, finds herself on land for several years, initially not the most attractive to her, and suddenly finds herself there face to face with the history of her family, about which she previously preferred to keep quiet. Kai Aareleid is a playwright by profession and works as a translator and editor. In addition to the novel "Russian Blood", she published the novel "Burning of Cities", poetry collections "Women on the Road" and "Rain and Wine". The short stories, poems and articles written by her can be found in various literary magazines. The short story "Tango" in 2013 was awarded the prize. Fr. Tuglas as the best short story of the year.
