"Have I portrayed myself as I really am? I don't know. Most people have little understanding of their anatomy. And even more so about their physical, mental and spiritual capabilities. A person's opinion of himself is just one opinions. It can sometimes be so biased that it can be equated to perjury. My autobiography can be considered not only a series of discoveries, losses, illusions, disappointments, accumulation of experience and something else, but also a lifelong attempt at self-knowledge, which only partially reflected in this book".

Voinovich Vladimir Nikolaevich is a Russian prose writer and playwright. He was born in 1932 in the Tajik Republic.

With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the Voinovich family was evacuated and wandered around the country a lot. Vladimir Nikolayevich graduated from several school classes, after the war he studied at a vocational school. He tried himself in various professions: he worked as a mechanic and an auto mechanic, was the editor of the All-Union Radio.

In 1951, Vladimir Voinovich went to serve in the army. As a soldier, he wrote his first poems, which were published in 1955 in the printed publication "Kerch Worker", whose employee was the father of Vladimir Nikolayevich.

Returning from the army, Vladimir Voinovich went to Moscow, where he studied at the Pedagogical Institute for more than a year, and from 1960 got a job as an editor at a radio station. Fame came to Vladimir Nikolaevich after the story "We live here" was published in 1961. In subsequent years, the works "Moscow 2042", "Monumental Propaganda", "The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of a Soldier Ivan Chonkin" saw the light of day - a story for which Voinovich was deported in 1980 and deprived of citizenship. After 10 years, Vladimir Voinovich returned to his homeland.

Currently, Vladimir Nikolaevich Voinovich lives in the Moscow region. In 2010 he published the book Self-portrait. The novel of my life", in which he spoke about his life path.
