The book by Vladimir W. Wiedemann, a journalist, writer, historian and anthropologist, is a unique document of the era: it presents an insider's view of the social and spiritual underground that raged under the shadow of the official ideology of the USSR in the 1960s-1980s. Perhaps, every creative person in one way or another joined this unspoken all-Union community - both the first Soviet "children of flowers", and representatives of dissident circles, and seekers of mystical revelations. The author, having been in the center of those events, allows us to plunge into the secret life of Soviet informals, who largely determined our current reality.
