T. Adorno (1903-1969) immediately after the end of the Second World War became the head of a major empirical study on the roots of authoritarianism, conducted in West Germany and the United States. Adorno found a combination of such personal traits as conventionality, obedience to authority, destructiveness and cynicism, which is very symptomatic of an anti-democratic structure.
