"Anatoly Kornelievich Vinogradov was born on April 9 (March 28 according to the old style), 1888 in the Linen Factory (now the Kaluga region). In 1912 he graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of Moscow University. In 1912-1925, Anatoly Vinogradov was the director State Library of the USSR named after Lenin. Together with M. Gorky, he worked on the publication of the classics of foreign literature, edited the series "The History of a Young Man of the 19th Century." Fame brought to the writer biographical books - "Three Colors of Time" (1931), "The Lost Glove" (1931) - about the life and work of Stendhal; "The Tale of the Turgenev Brothers" (1931) - about the bright fate of the Decembrists Nikolai and Alexander Turgenev; "Black Consul" (1932) - about Toussaint Louverture; "Condemnation of Paganini" (1936); "Byron" (1936), "Stendhal and his time" (1938). In addition, the writer wrote works about P. Merim, the novel "Chronicle of the Malevinskys" (1941). Vinogradov's works are distinguished by an entertaining presentation, saturation with historical material. The writer died on November 26, 1946 in Moscow."
