Yegor Kuzmich Ligachev, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1985 to 1990, was one of those who started perestroika and the first of the top Soviet leaders who saw the perniciousness of Mikhail Gorbachev's course for the USSR. Ligachev resolutely opposed the policy of the collapse of a great power and was not afraid to join the fight against the destroyers. The sharp political battle between E. Ligachev and B. Yeltsin became a memorable event of the perestroika period. Unfortunately, Ligachev's phrase "Boris, you're wrong!" became prophetic for the fate of the state, which was soon headed by Yeltsin.
