The book describes the events of the Patriotic War of 1812, which took place on the territory of the Baltic States and turned out to be little known among readers. The book describes the share of military labor of the defenders of Riga and Dinaburg in 1812

During the Patriotic War of 1812, military operations in the territory of the Baltic region played a special and significant role in the defeat of Napoleon's army. Then our common Victory was formed from individual deeds, from exploits, from the heroism of Russian soldiers and officers. Unfortunately, this page of the past is still covered undeservedly little. The most famous and classical works are the books by S.N. Sivitsky and V.E. Zhamov, an officer of the General Staff of the Russian Imperial Army, published back in 1912. It was their work that became the classic basis for any research on this topic. In view of the fact that various sources often contain conflicting information about the number of losses of the opposing sides and the dates of the events that took place, a lot of work was done to clarify all the existing contradictions. The same applies to controversial spellings of various geographical names. Thus, this edition provides the most reliable and verified information to date (however, there is always the possibility that through the efforts of other researchers new data will be found that cast doubt on previous conclusions). It should be noted that over the past period, much in the assessment of the events of 1812 in the Baltics is interpreted ambiguously. A considerable number of authors, due to a number of opportunistic or political circumstances, seek in every possible way to belittle the feat of the Russian soldier and to distance the history of modern Latvia from those ancient events as much as possible. For many Latvian researchers, the war of 1812 is “history that has nothing to do with the Latvian people”, and therefore it is “foreign”. For modern Russian historians, the events near Riga are often overshadowed by other grandiose battles of that era. I would like to believe that this book will help correct this injustice, restore the lost memory, and awaken in our contemporaries a sense of belonging to the great and glorious events of 200 years ago.
