Belgium is a country of museums and a country of museums. In this small country, you can count about two hundred museums of various types. Some are under the auspices of the state and are financed by it, others are under the jurisdiction of city magistrates, others are owned by private individuals, founded by them and receive support from the society of friends that has formed around them. Numerous cathedrals and churches of Belgium, monasteries and monastic hospitals - also original museums - to this day store significant works of art, once created for their adornment and glory by famous artists. The book examines the museums of the four largest Belgian cities - Ghent, Bruges, Brussels and Antwerp, the country's famous art centers both in the past and in the present. The edition is richly illustrated.
