Boris Nikolaevich Chicherin is a Russian lawyer, one of the founders of Russian constitutional law, philosopher, historian, publicist and teacher. Hegelian. Uncle of the future People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the RSFSR and the USSR G.V. Chicherin. A prominent representative of the Russian school of government.
The memoirs of Boris Nikolaevich Chicherin (1828–1904), who witnessed three reigns (Nicholas I, Alexander II, Alexander III), represent a unique source in cultural and historical terms.
Social status, education and range of interests allowed the author to become a participant in key moments in Russian history, to act as an opponent or like-minded person of almost all the iconic figures of his time: Herzen and Chernyshevsky, Pobedonostsev and Katkov, outstanding reformers D.A. and N.A. Miliutin, writers Leo Tolstoy and Ivan Turgenev and many others.
He was both an eyewitness and a participant in the events described, and at the same time possessed the necessary historical, legal and philosophical training, making him a highly qualified researcher of a very broad historical period.
