"Forty-five" is the last novel of the trilogy by A. Dumas, which includes "Queen Margot" and "Countess de Monsoro". The events resurrected in the novel "Forty-Five" refer to 1585, when France was ravaged by religious and civil wars and a real threat of collapse hung over the French monarchy due to noble conspiracies, peasant riots and urban uprisings. At that time, the aggravated class contradictions led to a new streak of bloody wars, called by historians the "war of the three Henrys", namely: King Henry III of France, Duke of Guise of Lorraine and Henry of Navarre.
