An unfinished autobiographical novel about childhood and youth is a portrait of a very young Aksenov, seen by him from the height of his years. This is a monument to the era of heroes, whose youth fell on the terrible years of the Great Patriotic War and whose fate was determined by the war for years to come. The novel comes out with short prefaces by the writer's colleagues and friends, each of whom remembered something very personal and kind about the author, as if brick by brick recreating the image of Aksenov - a philosopher, dudes, a fighter and just a very charming person.
