The name of Nikolai Ivanovich Yezhov is known to almost everyone in our country and to many beyond its borders. This book, based on never-before-published archival documents, including the materials of his 12-volume investigative file, tells about the main stages of the life of N.I. mass repressions of the late 30s. last century. Another main character of the book is I. V. Stalin, who, in the words of the famous Soviet writer A. A. Fadeev, "grown Yezhov, as a gardener grows a tree of his choice." The relationship of these two people, starting from the moment of investigation into the circumstances of the murder of S. M. Kirov in December 1934 and up to the final point, set in February 1940, is an important plot outline of this historical study.
