Russian revolutionary poetry of the 1870s-1880s did not put forward a major poetic name. But this does not mean that this era did not leave a trace in the development of Russian poetic culture of subsequent generations. First of all, it reflected the unique originality of the era, its historical exclusivity. The poems of the revolutionary populists reflected the era through the eyes of its contemporaries, active participants in the revolutionary struggle. This poetry revealed some very significant features of her appearance, gave her socio-psychological characteristics, portraits of her heroes. Only against the backdrop of contemporary pale, vague, ideologically empty liberal poetry of those years does its socio-cognitive value stand out with particular clarity. The poetry of the 1870s and 1880s did not break off, but continued the long traditions of Russian poetry, going from the civil lyrics of the 18th century (Derzhavin, Radishchev), through the poetry of the Free Russian Society (Pnin, Born, Popugaev), to the poetry of Pushkin and the Decembrists (Ryleev, Bestuzhev, Kuchelbecker) and further - from the poetry of Lermontov, Polezhaev, Ogarev, Petrashevists to the democratic poetry of the 1860s (Nekrasov, Kurochkin, Dobrolyubov).
