The first edition of "Sonnets" by Adam Mickiewicz appeared in Moscow in December 1826 (Sonety Adama Mickiewieza. Moskwa, 1826).
This volume includes both the first edition in Polish and and the Russian edition of the sonnets, translated by V. Levik.
The "Additions" include:
I. "Sonnets not included in the edition of 1826": "Adoration", "A hawk. On the top of Kikineiz" and "Answer, Poetry! Where is your living brush?";
II. "Sonnets of Adam Mickiewicz in Russian Poetry", here are translations made during the years of the Polish poet's life in Russia and the censorship ban, and - selectively, in the most characteristic and significant samples - translations of subsequent years.
This publication gives, such Thus, a broad picture of the life of Adam Mickiewicz's "Sonnets" in Russian literature - from their first appearance in Moscow in 1826 and the first "arrangements" into Russian to modern translations in a historical perspective over the past one hundred and fifty years.
The final article and notes by S.S. Landa.
