The Brief Literary Encyclopedia is intended for writers, journalists, teachers of literature, students and graduate students of philology.
In a condensed form, the KLE covers the most important issues, provides basic biographical information and brief characteristics of the works of the most famous writers from different countries.

Volume 9 (additional). 1978. 970 stb. The volume is focused primarily on literary phenomena of the 1960s and 1970s. The volume ends with a subject index to the entire encyclopedia.

The ninth volume was famous for the fact that it included articles about writers who were initially excluded from the dictionary for ideological reasons, primarily about representatives of unrealistic movements in Soviet literature (Konstantin Vaginov, Alexander Vvedensky) and the first emigration (Georgy Adamovich, Don- Aminado, Nikolay Evreinov).

The index does not contain the names of emigrants of the 1970s, even those to whom separate articles were devoted in previous volumes of the encyclopedia (Alexander Galich, Vladimir Maksimov, Viktor Nekrasov).
