The book by D.M. Segal, one of the founders of the Russian school of structural and semiotic literary criticism, includes articles written over forty years, devoted to the study of Russian poetry and prose by the methods of semiotics.
The first section of the book, "Semiotics of Literature and History", includes problematic articles about the semiotic and socio-semiotic features of literature in general and Russian literature in particular, especially from the point of view of the problems of the chronotope in history. The second section, "On the Poetry of Meaning", contains articles that are semantic analyzes of the poetic and prose texts of Russian poets, chronologically from Pushkin to Mikhail Lozinsky and Boris Pasternak. The most extensive fragment of this section is devoted to the work of Osip Mandelstam. The third section, "On the Content of History", is the author's observations of modern culture, which is considered in close connection with science and social processes.
The collection of articles by D.M. Segal is published for the first time.
