Olga Burenina's research is devoted to the theoretical and philosophical modeling of absurdity in literature and related arts. Against the backdrop of a controversy with the already established theoretical discourse on the absurd, the author develops a concept according to which the absurd is understood as a phenomenon that arises in crisis moments of history, becoming in the history of culture a transformational mechanism for transformation and transition from the ordinary sphere to a new and unexpected sphere, from the usual form and meaning. - in other, unusual. In its universal essence, absurdity is the result of a creative act striving for "over-synthesis", for combining disparate discursive elements in an artistic text, as well as the sides of the depicted reality that cannot be brought together. The theoretical provisions are tested by the author on the material of fiction, theatrical, graphic, pictorial art of the first half, mainly the first third, of the 20th century.
The book is intended for specialists in literary criticism, philosophy, art history and cultural theory, as well as for all those who are interested in creative innovation in culture.
