The book is based on a series of lectures on the art of the second half of the 20th century. Biographies of artists, the history of artistic movements and new technologies, the author explores, based on two super-tasks chosen by the art of the avant-garde - to present the unimaginable Nothing and become Everything. The rapid and dramatic change in approaches to solving these problems in the 1940s-1990s. constitutes the main plot of the book.
For the present edition, all lectures previously published (chapters 1, 5-7, 11) have been substantially supplemented. The book is intended for readers interested in the history, theory and philosophy of modern culture.
