This monograph is the first comprehensive study of the Moscow religious-philosophical group "The Way", its role in the political, intellectual and cultural life of Russia in the pre-revolutionary and revolutionary periods. This influential association of philosophers included the leading ideologists of Russian Christian-liberal nationalism: N.A. Berdyaev, S.N. Bulgakov, M.O. Gershenzon, V.I. Ivanov, Prince E.N. Trubetskoy, P.A. Florensky , VF Ern and others. The originality of the author's approach to the history of Russian religious and philosophical thought, which consists in the fact that the subject of study is not the creative heritage of a particular thinker or philosophical trend, but an ideological publishing association, gives Hollerbach the opportunity to restore horizontal connections within Russian philosophy. Hollerbach classifies the "Puteitsev" as neo-Slavophiles. The content of the book is, first of all, a thorough source study of materials on the history of the publishing house. The description of sources develops, as it were, on two levels: in the main text of the book - as a guide directly to materials reflecting the history of the publishing house (book publication, disputes over publishing plans, editorial correspondence, reviews and press responses, etc.), in footnotes - as a guide to contemporary works related to various aspects of the topic. As a result, a new genre of research arises, which the author of the preface, A.V. Lavrov, successfully defined as "historical and cultural cartography." You can also call it a "guidebook" or "seminary" - and each of these definitions will have its own reason. The book can serve both as a guide to the history of philosophy and as a basis for subsequent scientific deepening into the subject - in the space of several of its pages it is quite possible to collect material for a dissertation. Bringing together all currently available sources on the history of the publishing house "The Way", its author seeks not so much to state everything that he thinks about him, but everything that he knows, opening the door to those who want to know more. Hollerbach expands the source base very thoroughly, and above all in that part of it that concerns newspapers. The best traditions of factual descriptions have found a worthy successor in the person of the author. Hollerbach's work convinces that source studies as a branch of science has its own ways of knowing and persuading. On the other hand, there are many pages in the book that testify to the author's obvious theological unpreparedness, which, of course, is a significant drawback for any researcher who undertakes to study Russian religious philosophy. For example, the author does not always clearly understand the theological side of the imyaslavsky disputes: where he tries to characterize them even in the most general terms, he clearly uses other people's words. Such formulations as "the Russian Orthodox Church, frozen in dangerous conservatism", "the reptilian administration of the Russian Orthodox Church", etc., contradict the general style of the work and seem to have jumped out of the polemical speeches of the participants in religious and philosophical meetings. At times it even seems that the author is quite satisfied with the opinion about the causes of these disputes, gleaned from anti-Russian articles in the English newspaper The Times, excerpts from which he quotes in the book. However, despite this approach, the study contains the entire body of material on this topic, an overview of the main points of view is presented, among which the author's own is present only as one of the possible ones. It should be noted that in its consistent striving to remain within the boundaries of pure description, the book can in some respects be called a kind of manifestation of the position of a new generation of researchers. Unlike the older generation, whose representatives in their work were most often guided by completely individual predilections, young researchers choose the purity of description. This expels the journalistic element from such studies and exposes the past from a special angle: it appears as a dead nature that had not only a beginning, but also an end. This publication includes materials of the following nature: a review of the ideological positions of a group of philosophers who were members of the religious-philosophical group "The Way", a detailed description of its creative and propaganda activities, an analysis of the printed matter of the publishing house "The Way". The attitude to the "Way" of various political and ideological groupings is shown in detail - from extreme reactionaries and bureaucrats to socialist revolutionaries and radical Marxists. The reader can also get acquainted with how the activities of the "Way" were assessed by the Russian Orthodox Church, including the Old Believers. In addition, the monograph shows the influence of "travelling" on Russian post-revolutionary political thought, in particular, on Soviet and émigré philosophy in the period between the two world wars. The work was done on the basis of St. Petersburg, Moscow and New York archival and library collections and contains many new documents and information on the research topic. For specialists involved in the study of Russian philosophy and culture of the first half of the 20th century, the history of Russian philosophy, certain aspects of dogmatic theology, biographies of Russian philosophers, for specialists involved in the source study of Russian religious and philosophical thought, archaeographic research, for philologists engaged in the study of Russian literature of the early 20th century century and literature of the Russian Diaspora, for historians, culturologists, political scientists, as well as for all those interested in Russian philosophy. The publication can be used as a scientific material for teachers, pupils and students of theological educational institutions, for students and graduate students of theological and humanitarian universities and faculties. In the design of the book, a painting by V.M. Vasnetsov "From apartment to apartment" was used.
