These "prolegomena" are not intended for students, but for future teachers, and even for these latter they should serve as a guide not for teaching a science that already exists, but for creating this science. There are scientists for whom the history of philosophy (both ancient and modern) is their philosophy itself; the real prolegomena were not written for them. They should wait until those who are trying to draw from the sources of reason itself have finished their work, then it will be their turn to inform the world about what has happened. And then nothing can be said that, in their opinion, has not already been said - and this can even serve as an unmistakable prediction for the whole future; for since the human mind has dreamed of innumerable objects in various ways for many centuries, nothing is easier than to find in every new thought some old one, somewhat similar to it.
