Part I:
This edition publishes the memoirs of A. I. Koshelev “My Notes” and the article “Hunting is Worse than Bondage.” The author paints a vivid picture of the life of Russian society over entire decades. Being a man of the 40s in spirit and a like-minded person of A. S. Khomyakov, K. S. Aksakov, and the Kireyevsky brothers, Koshelev pays special attention to the history of the Slavophile circle. Of great interest are the pages of memoirs dedicated to the social revival after the Crimean War, the efforts of Koshelev and others in preparing the peasant reform, and participation in zemstvo activities. The memoirs contain many details of the life and customs of the Russian nobility.
