The literary debut of the outstanding Russian thinker and theologian, Priest Pavel Florensky, took place on the pages of the Symbolist magazines 'New Way' and 'Balance'. A short period of rapprochement with the circle of Moscow and St. Petersburg Symbolists falls on 1904-1905, the last year of Florensky's study at the natural-mathematical department of Moscow University and subsequent admission to the Moscow Theological Academy. During this period, he was preparing for publication a collection of poems 'Steps', combining his early poetic experiences, and also worked on the poem 'Saint Vladimir'; they are published for the first time in this volume, as is the Notebook of 1904-1905, where Florensky entered the first drafts of finished and unfinished articles. The 'Epistolary' section contains materials of his correspondence with Andrei Bely, Zinaida Gippius and Dmitry Merezhkovsky, Maximilian Voloshin, an unsent letter to Valery Bryusov and the theosophist E. Pisareva, as well as letters to Florensky from Sergei Solovyov and A.S. Petrovsky. The volume ends with the 'Duoia' section, which publishes the article 'On Blok' attributed to Florensky and raises the problem of its attribution.
