Posthumous edition of the book of the famous Russian historian Sergei Germanovich Pushkarev (1888-1984), who has been in exile since 1920. The book contains two works by Pushkarev: `The Role of the Orthodox Church in the History of Russia` (first edition - 1938, Vladimirova, Czech Republic) and `Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra` (first edition - 1928, Prague). Contents of the first work: I. Ancient period. X-XIII centuries: Kievan Rus, Rostov-Suzdal and Novgorod. II. Second period: From the Tatar conquest to the end of the 17th century. III. Third Synod period: From Peter the Great to the revolution. The content of the second work: 1. The life and deeds of St. Sergius. 2. Significance of St. Sergius in the history of the Russian church and the Russian state. His students and successors. 3. Trinity-Sergius Monastery in the XV-XVI centuries. 4. Trinity-Sergius Monastery in troubled times. 5. Trinity-Sergius Monastery in the XVII century. 6. Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra in the XVIII-XIX centuries. 7. Troparion to St. Sergius. Biographical information about the author. Two illustrations for the second work: the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra and the Icon of the Holy Trinity by Andrey Rublev.
