All systems of meditation are aimed at calming the mind and awakening the spirit. When the mind is excited, a chaos of thoughts, images, associations and feelings arises in it, it reacts to everything, often excessively strongly, which leads to the dispersion of vitality. Since the mind is occupied with all this flow, it cannot direct all its power to any one thought or one feeling. So the power is dissipated. It is like the rays of the sun: when they are scattered, they give off some heat, but if they are collected at a point through a magnifying glass, they can ignite the paper. When we calm our mind through meditation techniques, we have the opportunity to focus it.
