More info
The book offered to the reader contains more than eight hundred articles covering genres that were presented on the Russian stage in the 20th century at various times. The main section is occupied by personalities - articles about artists, directors, artists, composers, poets, writers, etc. The defining selection criteria were: the creation by an artist endowed with a bright personality of new directions, genres, subgenres, original numbers; activity and duration of participation in concert life - resonance in the press, memoirs, release of records, CDs, etc. The biographical and reference nature determined the typical structure of such articles - a chronologically sequential biography with a set of mandatory information and a brief description of creativity. On the basis of a wide historical and theoretical material, the variety and evolution of pop genres are shown, the work of artists, composers, poets, etc., who created the Russian stage, is collected, systematized and comprehended. I don’t know exactly why the authors of the book called it not an encyclopedia, but a lexicon, but the essence of this has not changed. Along with monographic articles devoted to outstanding artists, directors, writers, composers, artists who devoted their lives to the stage in their early years, generalizing materials are also published here, information is given about the most significant variety theaters, specific terms are explained, and all this is accompanied by a bibliography, as is customary in such cases. The book is beautifully illustrated and published on excellent paper, which makes this scientific work a deluxe edition.
