This is the first variety encyclopedia. It was able to appear thanks to the help of many people and organizations who, in spite of everything, considered it necessary to take stock of a whole century of one of the most popular forms of art. I don’t know exactly why the authors of the book called it not an encyclopedia, but a lexicon, but the essence of this has not changed. Along with monographic articles devoted to outstanding artists, directors, writers, composers, artists who devoted their lives to the stage in their early years, generalizing materials are also published here, information is given about the most significant variety theaters, specific terms are explained, and all this is accompanied by a bibliography, as is customary in such cases. The book is beautifully illustrated and published on excellent paper, which makes this scientific work a deluxe edition.
