"First Joys" is a novel by one of the favorite Soviet writers - Konstantin Fedin.
The book presents a visible picture of provincial life in 1910, that is, the time when reaction seemed to be able to triumph over the revolution. Following the historical truth of life, the author cannot yet bring to the fore the narratives of those heroes who in the future will be the “gravediggers of capitalism,” but he speaks about them with great warmth - this is the worker Pyotr Ragozin, the young man Kirill Izvekov, who is just entering life, but already firmly knowing the way to the barricades. On the pages of the novel we meet people of different social groups and classes. Here are the police officials, and representatives of the merchant class - the Meshkovs and Shubnikovs, the creative intelligentsia - Pastukhov and Tsvetukhin, the inhabitants of the Parabukina shelter.
