Nikolai Aleksandrovich Ravich belongs to the older generation of Soviet writers. His works “Machinist Ukhtomsky”, “Suvorov”, “The Tale of the Great Pomor”, “Youth of the Century” became widely known and were republished many times.
The novel “Two Capitals” is dedicated to the heroic past of the Russian people. It takes place in the second half of the eighteenth century. This era, when the revolutionary democratic movement first arose, is rich in events and people. The book features opponents of the tsarist autocracy with different ideas - revolutionary democrats led by A. Radishchev and liberal educators (Novikov, Kheraskov, etc.), portraits of Catherine the Second, her associates (Bezborodko, Potemkin, etc.) are drawn. The reader is presented with a living panorama of that time, pictures of the military exploits of Russian soldiers and the life of the great commanders and naval commanders - Suvorov, Rumyantsev, Kutuzov, Ushakov.
