The book by Mark Dery, a famous American publicist, “Escape Speed: Cyberculture at the Turn of the Century” is devoted to a wide range of cyberculture phenomena. The author talks about the connection between the cyber culture of the 90s and the counterculture of the 60s, about the influence of computer technology on the formation of entire art movements - electronic music and robot sculpture. Separate chapters of the book are devoted to computer body art, the problem of sexual relations on the Internet and the prospect of the emergence of a cyborg. By analyzing individual books, paintings, installations and practices, the author tries to understand the ways in which modern cyberculture will lead humanity to control the evolution of human nature.
