Alexander Kuprin is a man with a very difficult fate, the son of hereditary nobles, he graduated from a military school in 1887, then served in an infantry regiment. Having retired at the age of 24, Kuprin had no idea what to do next - he had solid capital and a civilian profession. The future author of “The Garnet Bracelet” and “The Pit” worked odd jobs and traveled a lot around Russia, getting to know the country and its people. Based on his experience of military service and impressions from numerous trips, Kuprin begins to write a lot; his stories and essays begin to appear in newspapers and magazines.

In 1905, he published the story “The Duel,” which was very well received by the public and critics - this is how the writer became famous and began speaking at public readings. But he cannot live the measured life of a famous writer: in 1914, Kuprin was mobilized into the army for a period of one year, and shortly before that, on his own initiative, he set up a military hospital at home, and two years later, 1917 came to Russia...< /p>

The writer discusses with Lenin the creation of a peasant newspaper, but then fights on the side of the White Guards, and in 1920 he moves to live in Paris. At that time he was 50, he was the author of famous books, it would seem that he should meet a calm old age in Europe. But 17 years pass, and at the invitation of the Soviet government he returns to his homeland in 1937. He is given an apartment in a prestigious building in Leningrad, but this period in Kuprin’s life does not last long: a year later he dies of cancer.
