Christian Matthias Theodor Mommsen is a German historian, classical philologist, lawyer and politician of Frisian origin.

In 1868, Theodor Mommsen was awarded the highest Prussian Order of Merit in Science and Art for his academic achievements.

In 1895 he was awarded the medal of the British Royal Numismatic Society.

In 1902, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his work "Roman History" with the wording "to the greatest existing master of historical literature, with special mention to the monumental work "Roman History"". Mommsen was one of the few authors to win the Nonfiction Prize, the only historical winner. He remained the oldest recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature until 2007, when Doris Lessing received the prize.

The condition of the books is very good. Blocks of pages without remarks, no traces of moisture, stains, adhesive tape, seals, torn, splits. Some of the volumes have minor scratches on the bindings. A few corners of the bindings in two volumes are slightly bent.
