Carl Gustav Mannerheim (1887 - 1951) was a general in the Russian Imperial Army and took part in the Russo-Japanese and First World Wars. After the October Revolution, he headed the first Finnish state. Having become a marshal and commander-in-chief of the Finnish armed forces, he fought twice against the USSR. In 1944, he became the first president of Finland and ensured the country's post-war sovereignty.
