A legendary figure in the history of Russian science and education, a prominent scientist, engineer and teacher, Yakov Kagan-Shabshai (1877-1939) in the 1900s - early 1920s. Collected works of Russian Jewish artists. his collection included works by Marc Chagall, Lazar Lissitzky, Robert Falk and many other great authors. Most of it was transferred by the collector in 1932 to the Jewish Museum in Odessa and died during the bombing of the city at the very beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Some of the works - including the works of Chagall - were taken abroad. Research i. V. Bruk presents the experience of the reconstruction of the Jewish art gallery I. F. Kagan-Shabshaya.
